Catacombs of Kom El-Shoqafa
The Catacombs of Kom El-Shoqafa have a main tomb that was built in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, when Egypt and a large part of the Roman Empire were under the rule of the Roman emperors Domitian and Trajan. The elements of the ancient Egyptian style, such as the double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt and the sun disk of the god “Horus,” were combined with the Greco-Roman symbols such as the thyrsus of the cult of Dionysus.
The Great Library of Alexandria
Alexandria is a city that is located on the Mediterranean Sea, which Alexander the Great established as a hub of learning and culture in the Hellenistic era. Qaitbay Citadel
The Qaitbay Citadel is an important defensive structure on the Mediterranean shore. The Qaitbay Citadel was built in 1477 AD (AH 882) by Sultan Qaitbay to defend the northern Egyptian coast against the Ottoman Empire. The Sultan did this because he understood the increasing Ottoman naval power, which endangered many states that could come under Ottoman control.
Pompey’s Pillar
Pompey’s Pillar dates back to the Roman period and is part of the old ruins of a large Roman complex that was in the city ages ago. This column, a red granite column of about 27 meters in length, is a tourist site in Alexandria that stands on the hill of Bab Sidra and the ancient Kom El-Shoqafa plateau.
