Karnak Temple is the largest temple and open-air museum in the world, and no other place in Egypt can compare to its size. Karnak has three temples inside one another that were dedicated to the god Amun Ra, his wife goddess Mut, and their son god Khonsu. This huge temple complex was the main place of worship for the god Amun Ra in Thebes in the New Kingdom, 18th dynasty of 1500 BC.

Luxor Temple

Luxor Temple is a magnificent ancient Egyptian complex with a rich and storied past. Founded around 1400 BC, its main construction was carried out by Pharaoh Amenhotep III of the 18th Dynasty and later expanded by Ramesses II. Tutankhamun contributed by adding decorative elements to the temple. Dedicated to the rejuvenation of kingship, Luxor Temple played a central role in the annual Opet Festival, a grand religious celebration in which statues of the gods Amun, Mut, and Khonsu were paraded from Karnak Temple to Luxor Temple to renew the divine power of the pharaoh.

Hatshepsut Temple

The New Kingdom period witnessed the construction of Hatshepsut's mortuary temple (1478/72-1458 BC). This place was already sacred to “Hathor,” the goddess and Queen Hatshepsut herself (1507- 1458 BC), and had the earlier mortuary temple and tomb of King Nebhepetre Mentuhotep (2008-1957 BC) from the Middle Kingdom.

The Colossi of Memnon

The Colossi of Memnon, dating back to 1350 BC and built for Pharaoh Amenhotep III, are famous for their mysterious “singing”, a sound ancient travelers believed was the statues’ way of greeting the morning sun. This phenomenon was caused by temperature changes and cracks in the stone, as noted by early visitors. Standing tall for over three millennia, these monumental statues remain a remarkable testament to ancient Egyptian craftsmanship and history.

Kom Ombo Temple

Kom Ombo Temple was constructed at Kom Ombo during the Graeco-Roman period (332 BC-AD 395), north of Aswan. The temple is distinctive because it has two sections, one for “Sobek,” the crocodile god, and one for “Horus,” the falcon-headed god. In the legend of Horus, Seth's followers transformed into crocodiles to flee from him.

Philae Temple

The Temple of Isis at Philae was built during the reign of Ptolemy II (285–246 BC) in honor of the deities Isis, Osiris, and Horus, central figures in ancient Egyptian mythology. Its beautifully carved walls depict the legendary tale of how Isis resurrected and embalmed Osiris after his death. The site has long been regarded as a sacred place dedicated to the worship of Isis. Originally located on Philae Island, the temple was relocated to Agilkia Island in the 1970s to protect it from flooding caused by the construction of the Aswan High Dam.

The Nubian Village

The Nubians have preserved their unique language, customs, as well as their colorful architecture and art. The High Dam was built by Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser and transformed the lives of the Egyptians who used to worry about the flooding of the Nile River.

Amr Ibn El-As Mosque

The land of Egypt has never seen a mosque older than this one, as it was built in 21 AH by Amr Ibn El-As Mosque who was the leader of the Muslim army that took over Egypt. The People say that the mosque stands where Amr Ibn El-As's tent used to be in Fustat. This ancient Mosque is the oldest in Africa, not only in Cairo, but it was also a place of Islamic education before Al-Azhar Mosque existed.

The Hanging Church

Old Cairo has the beautiful Hanging Church which rests on top of a Roman fort's entrance. The church has exquisite woodwork, Coptic depictions of Jesus and his followers, and amazing sculptures of scenes from the Bible.

Emir Djaharks El-Khalili founded Khan El-Khalili market in 1382, one of the largest and most famous bazaars in the Middle East, and it has been an important part of Cairo ever since. Nowadays, Khan El-Khalili is the biggest bazaar in the whole Middle East as it has thousands of stalls that fill its maze-like lanes.

Al-Muizz Street

Al-Muizz L-Din Allah Al-Fatmi Street is a fascinating street in Old Cairo that has many cultural and historical sites such as palaces, tombs, madrasas, and mosques. Al-Aqmar Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Cairo and was built in 1125 CE, and has The Al-Hakim Mosque, which is one of the biggest mosques, was built in the 11th century.
