Karnak Temple

Ancient Egyptians called the Temple of Karnak Ipet-isu which means “the most chosen of places”. This holy temple is a complex of temples that took over 2,000 years to build and honor the Theban gods “Amun, Mut, and Khonsu”. This place can still surpass many wonders of the modern world and must have been magnificent in its time.

Luxor Souq

Luxor temple

Luxor Temple did not worship any particular pharaoh or god of Ancient Egypt unlike other temples in Thebes, it was a sacred place for the Theban Triad and the Royal Ka cult. The temple was built in 1400 BC and played a key role in the Opet Festival when a statue of Amun was carried on a boat from Karnak Temple along the Nile.

Hatshepsut Temple

Queen Hatshepsut (1479-1458 BC) became the most influential female sovereign in ancient Egyptian history as the wife of “Thutmose II”. She built the temple of Hatshepsut in 1479 BC and attained a powerful status as the partner of the god Amun when her Husband King “Thutmose II” expired, she ruled as the co-ruler for his son “Thutmose III” before she claimed the full authority of the throne.

The Colossi of Memnon

The Colossi of Memnon are stone figures of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, and they are well-known as “The Vocal Memnon” which guards the entrance to his ruined mortuary temple. The statues were famous in Roman times for producing a sound at dawn which attracted visitors from all over the ancient Mediterranean to wonder at the singing of the statues.

The High Dam of Aswan is one of the largest embankment dams in the world which was built across the Nile River between 1960 and 1971. The High Dam controls the annual flooding of the Nile, and hydroelectric power for Egypt, and creates Lake Nasser behind it. The dam also had a significant impact on the culture as it required the relocation of thousands of people and the preservation of ancient monuments such as Abu Simbel.

Philae Temple

Once you step inside the Philae temple, you will be amazed by the huge granite pillars that hold up the ceiling. The temple walls also have hieroglyphs that narrate the origin of the world and the Egyptian gods, and images of Isis bringing Osiris back from the dead. The main chamber of the temple is “The Sanctuary of Isis” where the statue of the goddess used to be.

The Unfinished Obelisk

The ancient Egyptian magic is embodied in the Unfinished Obelisk which is a colossal project that began in 1458 BC.
