The Giza Pyramids Complex

The Giza Pyramids Complex is well-known for its three massive pyramids which are usually called the “Pyramids of Giza.” The largest of them is the Great Pyramid, and the other two are the Pyramid of Khafre and the Pyramid of Menkaure. These pyramids served as burial places for the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs.

The Great Pyramid of Giza

The Great Pyramid is the biggest of the three pyramids at Giza, it took over twenty years to complete. Pharaoh Khufu treated his workers well by giving them food and clothes, and they remembered him fondly in their stories for generations. The sides align with the four main directions of the compass and each side at the base measures 755 feet. The pyramid was made of about 2,300,000 blocks of limestone and each one has an average weight of 2.5 tons.

The Great Sphinx

The Great Sphinx was constructed around 2530 BC by Khafre who was the fourth king of the Fourth dynasty (2575– 2465 BC) and the owner and builder of the second Giza pyramid. You can witness a stone from the 15th century BC between its paws that tells the story of a prince who had a dream under the Sphinx (and maybe asked for its help) and became a pharaoh with its help later.

The Valley Temple

The Valley Temple of Khafre was built with enormous stone blocks that weigh more than 150 tons. The Valley Temple is one of the most attractive attractions in Egypt as it belongs to Khafre who was the builder of the Great Sphinx and one of the two pyramids at Giza.

Queen Hatshepsut who ruled as one of ancient few female pharaohs in Egypt ordered the building of Hatshepsut Mortuary temple in 1473 BC. This was a magnificent project that lasted over 15 years. The temple once had a beautiful garden, beautiful plants, and water features but they are all gone now. Oddly enough, the final resting place of the Great Queen was not in her temple but in the Valley of the Kings.

The Colossi of Memnon

The great colossal statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III who ruled Egypt in the 18th Dynasty have been guarding the Theban Necropolis for more than three millennia.
