The Colossi of Memnon are monumental statues that once guarded the grand mortuary temple of Pharaoh Amenhotep III in the Luxor area of Egypt. Standing over 60 feet tall, these two towering figures, dating back to around 1350 BC, are all that remain of the temple's once-impressive structure. The statues are renowned not only for their immense size but also for the captivating legend associated with them. Ancient Greek travelers believed that at dawn, the statues emitted a mysterious singing sound, a natural phenomenon that added to their mystical allure and attracted visitors from far and wide.
