Abu Simbel Temple
Abu Simbel Temple is a colossal work of glorious art and epic glory, which was built by Pharaoh "Ozymandias" Ramses the Great (1279-1213 BC). It was built in 1264 BC to document the victory of the Battle of Kadesh in 1274 BC. It actually consists of two temples; one of them is the great temple dedicated to Ramesses II, and the other one is the smaller temple dedicated to his Great Royal Wife, Queen Nefertari. Abu Simbel Sun Festival of the temple was held on February 22 and October 22, when the sunlight illuminates the sanctuary statues of seated statues of Amun, Ptah, and Ra‑Horakhty.
