The Giza Pyramids Complex

The Giza Pyramids Complex includes one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. You may find it interesting to explore the role of women in this society as well as the symbolism and significance of the pyramids themselves. You will also be fascinated by the connection between the pyramids and the sun, which was considered a source of life and regeneration in ancient Egyptian religion.

The Great Pyramid of Giza

The Great Pyramid of Giza was built around 2570 BC and is one of the most amazing and ancient monuments in the world. The Pyramid is the oldest and largest of the three main pyramids on the Giza plateau and the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World that still stands today.

The Great Sphinx

The Great Sphinx of Giza is a colossal statue of a lion with a human head. It is linked to “Hathor,” the ancient Egyptian goddess of love, dance, music, joy, and motherhood. Hathor was worshipped as a protector, which matches the role of the Sphinx as a sentinel of the Giza Plateau. The Great Sphinx was built around the 26th century BC during the reign of Khafre, who is believed to be the face of the statue.

The Valley Temple

The complex of Giza included the Valley Temple, where the deceased and ceremonies took place. The soul of the deceased pharaoh received guidance and protection from goddesses in these rites. The temple complex had Hathor, who showed her role as a protector and her connection to the afterlife. Hathor and Isis, who were goddesses of cleansing, have been called upon in these rites.

The Pyramid of Queen Merities I

The Pyramid of Queen Merities I is the middle of the three small pyramids east of the Great Pyramid of Giza. It is thought to be the tomb of Merities I, who was an ancient Egyptian queen of the 4th Dynasty, who was the daughter of King Sneferu and the wife of King Khufu. The beautiful Queen had several titles, such as "Beloved of her Father" and "Devoted to Horus," and was honored under Khafre. The Pyramid of the Queen is about 30 meters high and has a small mortuary temple and a boat pit.

The Pyramid of Khentkaus I

You will enjoy the Pyramid of a great queen who belongs to “Khentkaus II”. Queen Khentkaus was a queen of the Fifth dynasty of Ancient Egypt, and she became a ruling queen after her husband, “Neferirkare Kakai,” died. You can also witness an inscription from that period that calls her "Mother and King of Upper and Lower Egypt" or "Mother of two kings of Upper and Lower Egypt."

Hatshepsut Temple

Pharaohs were usually men in ancient Egypt, but some great women managed to overcome this barrier. Hatshepsut (1507-1458 BC) claimed herself as pharaoh and for two decades she ruled Egypt as a man. Hatshepsut depicted herself in art with a male physique and a fake beard. All this time, she also performed the traditional female duties, but as time passed, Hatshepsut grew more confident and called herself “The Lady of the Two Lands. Her legacy is immortalized in the magnificent Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, one of the most beautiful architectural masterpieces of ancient Egypt. Built against the cliffs of western Thebes, the temple features terraces, colonnades, and chapels dedicated to gods such as Hathor and Anubis. It remains a powerful symbol of her vision, strength, and unique role as one of the very few female pharaohs in history.

Lunch Meal

It is your time now to have your tasty lunch before continuing to visit:

The Valley of the Queens
