Ibn Tulun Mosque

Ibn Tulun Mosque is a remarkable example of Islamic architecture that has survived for more than a thousand years. The mosque was built by Ahmad ibn Tulun between 876 and 879 CE. Built in the distinctive Samarran style with Abbasid influences, this magnificent mosque features a classic courtyard design. Four covered halls surround the central courtyard, with the largest and most impressive hall positioned on the qibla side - the sacred direction facing Mecca.
